Guidance on Isolation and Quarantine for COVID-19 (updated 1/11/2024)
Here is the guidance summary for Isolation and Quarantine:
Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 should stay home until their fever and other symptoms have resolved or significantly improved for at least 24 hours without the use of over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms. Individuals do not have to re-test in order to return to school/work.
If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please call their school office to report the positive test result and then keep them home until their symptoms have resolved or are significantly improved for at least 24 hours without the use of over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms.
Although not required, a mask is highly recommended indoors through day 10 following a positive test result.
This year, we have a new supply of COVID test kits available at each school site for staff and families as requested.

Masks remain one of the most effective and simplest safety mitigation layers to prevent transmission of COVID-19 infections. High quality masks, particularly those with good fit and filtration, offer protection to the wearer and optimal source control to reduce transmission to others. To best protect students and staff against COVID-19, CDPH currently strongly recommends continuing to mask indoors in school settings.
When there is a positive COVID-19 case in an elementary classroom, all members of that classroom are considered close contacts. Given that the CDPH strongly recommends indoor masking and COVID-19 testing for close contacts on day 3, 4, or 5 of the exposure period, all close contacts are required to wear a mask indoors and provide a negative COVID-19 test result on days 3, 4, or 5 of the exposure period to discontinue wearing a mask by day 6 of the exposure period.

Important Note: Cases posted on our Dashboard are cases requiring close contact exposure notifications. PGUSD does not wait to notify close contacts upon initial report of a positive case, however, we do wait for official confirmation from the public health department before listing the case on this dashboard. This could result in a delay of cases appearing on this dashboard or a discrepancy between the number of notifications received and actual number of confirmed cases (when the case is not confirmed positive by public health).
