PGUSD School Messenger and REMIND

Pacific Grove Unified School District will use our email message system, “School Messenger” to send text messages beginning in the school year 2017-18.  This will give you a single text message service to enroll in for any and all official text messages from our K-12 school sites.

Mobile phone numbers that are eligible to receive a text message from PGUSD must be in our student information system, PowerSchool.  We will use mobile numbers identified during the online enrollment process.  We will store up to three (3) adult numbers and one (1) student number.   The student number is intended for our High School student reminders.

There will be a one-time text message sent to all identified mobile phones on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 12:15pm.  The message will be:

Pacific Grove Unified School District alerts. Reply Y for aprx 3 msgs/mo. Txt HELP 4 info. Msg&data rates may apply. Visit schoolmessenger.com/tm

If you agree to receive PGUSD text messages, you must reply with the letter “Y”
If you do not want to receive future messages, you do not have to do anything.

To join, you can reply to the one-time text message or you can text “Y” or the word “YES” to 68453 (from an eligible mobile phone number that is stored in PowerSchool.) The service is free to join; your standard phone company data rates to receive messages apply.

Classroom teachers may continue use REMIND accounts for regular school messages.  If so, they will provide you information to sign up for their teacher account.

By adding text messaging from School Messenger for all official school site and district messages, we can reach everyone or a specific group of students/parents.  For example, if we know of a problem with a specific bus route one morning, we can send a text to just those parents.

In an emergency, we will also notify everyone using our “School Messenger” system to send an message to every email address on file.  The text message will be sent first.  If you don’t sign up for text messages, you will still be notified, but there will be some necessary delay before the email can be written and sent.

In an emergency where we need to call every parent/guardian immediately, we will also use the “School Messenger” phone system. This permits us to call multiple numbers per student all-at-once.

Important messages that are not urgent will still be sent via email.  We will make every effort to keep you informed with the most up-to-date and accurate information available to the district in any emergency.

School Messenger texts is an OPT-IN system.
